Implementation of a new point-of-sale system with a new architecture at a major retail company

Initial situation: The existing POS architecture was unable to efficiently support the processing of around 300 million euros in annual turnover. The company had 2,500 employees and over 200 branches, all of which were dependent on the legacy architecture. A modern, omnichannel-capable solution was urgently needed to scale the sales processes and meet regulatory requirements.

Objective: To implement a new POS solution with modern backend architecture, carry out the Europe-wide roll-out and ensure complete process documentation.

Result: The scalable POS architecture was implemented on time and within budget. The rollout across over 200 branches took place on schedule, all relevant business processes were maintained without interruption, and the procedural documentation was successfully approved by the auditor. This eliminated vendor lock-in risks.

The roll-out of the new omnichannel-enabled POS solution at the major retail company required the replacement of the legacy architecture in order to streamline the processing of annual sales of around 300 million euros. The project encompassed a Europe-wide rollout across over 200 branches, the creation of procedural documentation in accordance with GoBD and fiscalisation standards, and coordination between IT, branch management, external system providers and auditors. In doing so, the functionality of payment processing, reporting and interfaces to ERP and logistics systems was ensured. The migration took place without any downtime; the new architecture is scalable, supports future expansions and reduces risks such as vendor lock-in, thereby ensuring efficient and future-proof sales processing.
